About Software Freedom Day
Software Freedom Day (SFD) is a global, grassroots effort to educate the public about the benefits and availability of Free and Open Source Software. The non-profit company Software Freedom International coordinates SFD at a global level. Volunteer teams throughout the world organise local SFD events around the third Saturday in September.
The Software Freedom Day events in 2007 and 2008 hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Computer Society both received a “highly commended” award out of 500 international teams from Software Freedom International.
